This will be an opportunity to explore the vast expanse of the crater and witness its incredible wildlife in action. You’ll be accompanied by a knowledgeable guide who will help you spot and identify the various animals and birds that call the crater home.
Ngorongoro Crater is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most popular tourist destinations in Tanzania. It is a large volcanic caldera that was formed over two million years ago when a massive volcano erupted and collapsed in on itself. Today, the crater floor is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including lions, elephants, buffalo, zebras, and giraffes, as well as over 400 species of birds.
Your game drive will include a packed lunch, so you can enjoy a picnic in the heart of the crater and soak up the stunning surroundings. As the day draws to a close, you will return to your accommodations for dinner and an overnight stay in Ngorongoro.
The crater is surrounded by steep walls that provide a natural barrier, making it a natural enclosure for the wildlife within. This makes it an excellent location for game viewing, and visitors can expect to see large herds of animals grazing on the grassy plains, or stalking their prey in the surrounding forests. The crater is also home to a number of lakes and streams, which provide vital water sources for the animals.
In addition to its rich wildlife, Ngorongoro Crater is also known for its stunning scenery, with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and plains. Visitors can enjoy game drives, guided walks, and cultural tours, as well as overnight stays in the crater or nearby lodges. It is truly a unique and unforgettable destination for anyone interested in wildlife and natural beauty.
DAY 5: LAKE EYASI FOR CULTURE TOUR THEN FLY TO ZANZIBAR
After breakfast, you will be transferred to Lake Eyasi for a cultural tour. Lake Eyasi is a Salt Lake located in the southwestern part of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. It is home to the Hadzabe and Datoga tribes, two of Tanzania’s last remaining hunter-gatherer tribes.
During the cultural tour, you will have the opportunity to interact with these tribes, learn about their customs, and experience their way of life. The Hadzabe tribe is particularly fascinating, as they still live off the land, hunting with bows and arrows and gathering fruits and roots in the surrounding bush. You may also get the chance to try your hand at hunting or gathering with the tribe.
After the cultural tour, you will have a packed lunch before transferring to the airport for a flight to Zanzibar. Zanzibar is a semi-autonomous region of Tanzania known for its beautiful beaches, rich history, and vibrant culture.
