Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Introduction

Often called Africa’s Garden of Eden, Ngorongoro Conservation Area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that combines breathtaking scenery, rich cultural heritage, and abundant wildlife. The Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest inactive volcanic caldera, shelters an extraordinary variety of animals within its lush ecosystem.

Geography and Location

Located 180 km from Arusha, the conservation area is a prime destination nestled within the Great Rift Valley. Its crater floor is home to nearly every animal species found in East Africa.

Why Visit

Ngorongoro is one of the few places in Africa where you can reliably spot black rhinos, along with the Big Five, all within a single day. The presence of Maasai communities adds a rich cultural element to any safari experience here.

Getting There

Accessible by road from Arusha and by charter flights to nearby airstrips.

Best Time to Visit

Year-round, though the dry season (June-September) provides excellent game viewing. The green season (November-May) enhances the landscape and allows for sightings of animals with their young.
